Bugis Junction
Bugis Junction was completed in July 1995 as a mixed development comprising a retail mall, an office tower and the InterContinental Singapore Hotel. The development also incorporated three blocks of preserved pre-war shophouses. Located at the junction of three important streets in Singapore, the upper levels of the retail shop-houses that overlook the shopping malls are a mix of department store boutiques, hotel bedrooms and commercial workspaces which adds to the vibrant activity of the mall and the trading kiosks and shops below. The project has the distinction of having the first structural glass roof over a shopping mall. The concept was to avoid structural beans and similar visual obstructions, giving the feel of an open-air street.
